How Brazil's only climate-controlled private art storage facility works

Many storage companies offer fine art storage services in Brazil, but only Clé Chenue do Brasil maintains a fully climate-controlled warehouse, built to international standards of quality. Not by chance, we are the private art storage facility chosen by the most important Brazilian museums when they need extra space to store their collections.

In this post, we will explain how our climate-control system works.

A warehouse inside a warehouse

Clé Chenue keeps the storage space at a constant temperature between 18º and 22º all year round, and relative humidity between 45% and 55%. One of the secrets to maintaining this microclimate is that we have a warehouse inside another warehouse, like a matryoshka doll.

The climate-control system operates in the inner warehouse. It is not exposed to environmental variations, which affect only the outer warehouse. Passage from one environment to the other is through antechambers, so that there is no significant air exchange between the two: the cool air does not escape, nor does the outside heat get in.

Pipework outside the storage area and automatic alerts

Another important strategy is that the water pipes of the climate-control system run outside the storage area; this way, the works stored at Clé Chenue are free from any risk of being affected by a potential leak. More important still, all of Clé Chenue's climate control is tracked by automated systems that issue an immediate alert if any parameter deviates from the expected standard.

From 25 m² to 600 m², or shared space

This technology is available to all clients of Clé Chenue do Brasil, both in the private spaces of 25m² to 600m² and in the shared areas, for those who wish to store just a few objects.

Why this matters for your collection

All this care is aimed at ensuring the proper conservation of works of art and artefacts. Variations in temperature and humidity are at the root of the most frequent types of risk to collections, and can cause damage that compromises the value of the works.

That is why, when entrusting your collection to a storage company, asking about the climate-control system is as important as security and fire prevention.
