The initiative to develop an eco-designed cardboard for the storage and transport of works of art earned the Ça va cartoner consortium the France 2030 prize with the Alternatives Vertes 2 project, for the ecological transformation of cultural practices. The consortium includes the French companies Chenue and EILOA, the École Internationale de Logistique des Ouvres d'Art, both members of the international group to which Clé Chenue do Brasil belongs.
The prize will make it possible to develop a material that fully meets the conservation needs of works of art in storage or in transit, while reducing the ecological footprint of the activity compared with the plywood or epoxy currently most used for this purpose.
With the support of France 2030, the group will be able to study the physical and chemical properties of cardboard packaging in a laboratory context and under real conditions, in order to guarantee ideal protection for the transport and conservation of works of art. The project will also seek to train conservation and restoration professionals in the conscious choice of materials so as to minimize their impact on the environment.
Besides EILOA and Chenue, the consortium brings together museums and other public and private institutions in France: the Museu du Quay Braily; the Center for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France, linked to the French Ministry of Culture; the Laboratoire Arc'Antique and the Dobree Museum; the CRC, a conservation research center; the ARCP, the photography restoration and conservation atelier of the City of Paris; the National Library of France; and LP Art.
