About the show
The exhibition "O Brasil Ilustrado: the post-colonial legacy of Jean-Baptiste Debret" was held at the Maison de l'Amérique Latine in Paris, from 30 April to 4 October 2025. It brought together 40 reinterpretations by 14 contemporary Brazilian artists such as Gê Viana, Dalton Paula, Anna Bella Geiger, Jaime Lauriano and Denilson Baniwa. A critical and contemporary dialogue on the colonial legacy and the visual memory of Brazil built by Debret. Curated by Jacques Leenhardt and Gabriela Longman.
