Histórias Brasileiras

The exhibition

A wide-ranging MASP exhibition proposing a critical review of the narratives that built Brazil's history, marking the bicentennial of Independence. It brought together more than 400 works by around 250 artists, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, videos, maps, flags and documents, organized into seven thematic sections: Mapas e bandeiras, Paisagens e trópicos, Terra e território, Rebeliões e revoltas, Mitos e ritos, Festas and Retratos. It was the high point of the two-year program dedicated to Brazilian histories (2021–2022).

Clé Chenue's role

The context of the show

Held in the year marking the 200th anniversary of Brazil's Independence and the 100th anniversary of the Semana de Arte Moderna, Histórias Brasileiras was part of the project developed by MASP since 2016 around different chapters of Brazilian and world history and their reflections in the visual arts.

The exhibition included more than 400 objects, among them paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, videos, installations, newspapers, magazines, books, documents, flags and maps, selected by 11 curators across practically the entire country.

The logistics operation

Clé Chenue do Brasil was responsible for the entire logistics of the show, a complex operation involving collections in dozens of cities, the building of custom-made crates, transport to São Paulo, unpacking and supervision of the installation at MASP. Once the exhibition closed, the company also oversaw the entire process of deinstallation, packing and return of the works to their owners.

Beyond the sheer number and diversity of collection points, this exhibition was a logistical challenge because of the variety of the types of objects to be transported, all completed within the deadlines needed to guarantee a flawless opening.
