Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo

The institution

An institution founded in 1970 and housed in the left wing of the Mosteiro da Luz, on Avenida Tiradentes in the Luz district, the only 18th-century colonial building in São Paulo to preserve its original structure and materials. It holds one of the most important collections of sacred art in Brazil, with around 4,000 pieces, including sacred images, altars, oratories, religious gold and silverwork, jewelry, furniture and paintings, produced mostly between the 16th and 20th centuries. The collection originates in the images gathered from 1907 onward by Dom Duarte Leopoldo e Silva, the first Archbishop of São Paulo.

Clé Chenue's role

Located in central São Paulo, at the Mosteiro de Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição da Luz, the Museu de Arte Sacra holds a rich artistic, archival, bibliographic, devotional and architectural collection. The collection includes rare sacred images, moved from time to time for exhibitions at other institutions. Clé Chenue do Brasil serves the Museu de Arte Sacra on these occasions, safeguarding the integrity of pieces that are not only rare but also treasured for their religious significance.
