About the show

The MoMA acquired the iconic Chaise Rio, designed by Oscar Niemeyer and Anna Maria Niemeyer in 1978. The piece added to the collection has historical provenance: it was a personal gift from the architect to his friend Oswaldo Bratke in the early 1980s. Made of black-lacquered moulded plywood, hand-woven cane and a leather cushion.
