Storage & conservation

Two storage facilities. One single standard.

7,500 m² across two climate-controlled units in Greater São Paulo, temperature at 20 °C ± 2 °C and relative humidity at 50% ± 5%, monitored around the clock. Spreading a collection between separate facilities under the same technical rigour is the most advanced way to protect it. It is the infrastructure Brazilian museums choose when they need space beyond their own, and it is available to private collectors.

Climate-controlled storage

Outside, the climate shifts with the seasons. Inside, nothing changes: the storage space is held permanently at 20 °C ± 2 °C, with relative humidity at 50% ± 5%. It is the stability of this pair that protects a collection: climate fluctuation is behind the most frequent damage to works of art. Understand why humidity is the greatest enemy of works of art.

This microclimate comes from the architecture, not just the machines: in each unit, a warehouse built inside another, with airlocks, thermal insulation and airtightness designed for the rigour that collection conservation demands. See our climate-controlled facilities up close.

Thermal insulation and airtightness

The precision of 20 °C ±2 °C and 50% ±5% relative humidity starts before automation: it starts with construction. Walls, ceiling and floor are lined with high-performance thermal insulation panels that eliminate thermal bridges and minimise heat exchange with the outside environment.

Cold-room doors with perimeter seals ensure the space is airtight: outside air does not enter, conditioned air does not escape. This physical barrier is what allows the automation system to work at peak efficiency, correcting minimal variations rather than compensating for structural losses.

Chilled water cooling system (chillers) and fancoils

Chilled water pipes run outside the storage area by design, not by chance: only dehumidified air reaches the artworks, never water. Inside, automation drives the climate control on its own, selecting the operating modules at each moment without human intervention.

When a component fails, the system does not wait: it immediately alerts our technical team, on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The entire circuit operates with redundancy: chillers, fancoils and pumps have active backup, ensuring uninterrupted climate control even during contingencies or maintenance.

Emergency generator

The climate control of a technical reserve cannot depend on grid stability. That is why each unit has its own generator, sized to keep the air conditioning system, automation and humidity controls running continuously during power outages.

The transfer is automatic: in the event of a power cut, the generator takes over in seconds, with no variation in temperature or relative humidity. The artwork remains protected, regardless of what happens outside.

  • Uninterrupted climate control 24/7
  • Independence from the power grid

Storage options

Every collection finds a tailored solution, from a single object to an entire holding, always inside the climate-controlled warehouse and under the same rigorous security standards.

  • Private areas from 25 m² to 600 m²
  • Shared areas
  • 6 m ceiling height for large formats
  • Fine-art self-storage

Conservation and restoration

Beyond storage, Clé Chenue looks after the health of works over time. Backed by a network of specialist providers, we offer preventive conservation and restoration, with correct packing and handling at every stage.

Climate-controlled storage is the first line of conservation: by stabilising temperature and humidity, it prevents most of the damage that harms collections before any intervention is even needed.

Collection management

A well-documented collection is a protected collection. In one place, we bring together the infrastructure and specialist services that accompany a work throughout its life, from cataloguing to market valuation.

A dedicated viewing room lets works be presented to curators, insurers and prospective buyers on site, with all the technical care the piece requires.

Security and fire prevention

A civil firefighter is on the premises 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, alongside an integrated smoke-detection system connected to the fire brigade. Spaces are compartmentalised by fire-rated walls and doors, and an up-to-date emergency plan is maintained through regular drills and training.

Security is both electronic and human: RFID access control, high-resolution closed-circuit television, an armoured gatehouse, a perimeter with a monitored fence and round-the-clock armed guarding, with a control centre linked to the Military Police just 700 metres away.

Let's talk about your collection.
